• Fakenham Virtual Christmas Tree Festival

The Fakenham Parish Church Christmas Tree Festival Team had lengthy debate back in April before deciding that we had to go virtual.  We now regard this as admirable foresight!  Our plans are very well advanced. and the daily videos for the website – fakenhamchristmastreefestival.co.uk – have been filmed and are being edited ready for release.

Unfortunately, lockdown 2.0 will mean some changes, but much will be able to go ahead as planned. The website will operate as announced and both the Town Trail and the art competition can go ahead.  Entry forms for the Town Trail can be downloaded from the website or collected from Bailey, Bird & Warren in Bridge Street.  If neither of these is possible, the back of an envelope will be fine!  Completed entries can be emailed to [email protected] or delivered to the Rectory Office in Gladstone Road.

Sadly, there will not be a live-streamed service on ‘Festival Sunday’, but there will be a pre-recorded service on the website.

Fakenham will be ‘Christmas Tree Town’.  We are asking those businesses which offered to have a Christmas Tree themed display to do this whenever they can and individual households to use this second enforced ‘stay at home’ to create exciting and imaginative displays for their homes.

Whatever its limitations, and whatever the obstacles, there will be a Fakenham Parish Church Christmas Tree Festival in 2020!

  • Coronavirus testing for keyworkers

Community coronavirus testing in Norfolk and Waveney now available to “key workers” (and/or household members with symptoms).

The NHS in Norfolk and Waveney is offering local coronavirus tests to key workers* such as teachers or food industry staff, to help them remain in work and continue to support their communities. This also applies to members of their household who may have coronavirus symptoms causing the key worker to self-isolate.

Testing will take place at three locations in Norfolk and Waveney:

    • The Centrum centre, close to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH)
    • The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn (QEHKL)
    • The James Paget University Hospital (JPUH) in Gorleston.

(See below if you would rather be tested at Ipswich, Stansted or Peterborough)

To book using the Norfolk and Waveney service:

People on the government key workers* list who need to be tested should ask their employer or line manager to register their organisation by emailing [email protected] with their (employer) name, job title and contact number. The registration team at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital will then contact the employer to register their organisation so they their key workers can then book an appointment. The employer will be given a unique reference number and further instructions.

All applications will be checked to make sure people are well enough to attend a testing centre, and eligible for a test in line with Public Health England guidance.

People will receive their test results within 48 hours or less, either directly or via their employer’s occupational health service, together with initial advice about to what to do next.

Appointments at Ipswich, Stansted and Peterborough or other centres

If you wish to be tested at any of the national drive-through testing centres, such as Ipswich, Stansted, Peterborough and elsewhere, then you must use the national booking service. For self-referrals, this is via https://self-referral.test-for-coronavirus.service.gov.uk.

    Who are key workers?

    * Key workers include many people working in education, transport, many public services, energy, power and water/sewerage workers, and those working to provide, distribute or sell food. • Parish Council Elections on 2 May 2019

    Local Elections 2 May 2019

    Time to make a difference?

This year the Parish Council elections coincide with the District Council elections on 2 May 2019. So now is the time to consider taking an active part in local government and representing the views of all the residents in the parish. Would you like to make a difference to your local community? Kettlestone is looking for potential new councillors.

The role is not onerous: the Parish Council meets six times a year; councillors spend some time between meetings on parish council matters or particular projects depending on their involvement.

The Parish Council has an overall responsibility for the well-being of the local neighbourhood. The work falls into three main categories: representing the local community; delivering services to meet local needs (often in conjunction with the District and County Councils); and striving to improve the quality of life in the local area.

A wide range of training for councillors is available, covering role and responsibilities, law and procedures, planning, council finance, budget and precept, employment issues.

Make a difference and stand as a Parish Councillor

    • Get involved with your community
    • Have a say about the local issues
    • Influence the way local services are provided
    • Decide how local money is spent to improve your community.

If you wish to stand as a Parish Councillor you will need to complete a Nomination Paper (see information below) which must be hand delivered to the Returning Officer, Electoral Services, North Norfolk District Council, Holt Road, Cromer, Norfolk, NR27 9EN on any working day after the date of the Notice of Election (26 March) between the hours of 10am and 4pm but no later than 4pm on Wednesday 3 April.

The link below provides information regarding the qualifications for standing, candidate spending, the campaign, your right to attend key electoral events and what to do after the declaration of results. It is a very useful page and may help potential candidates decide if they want to stand and if they qualify to stand. https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/i-am-a/candidate-or-agent/parish-and-community-council-elections-in-england-and-wales . To find the nomination paper, on Part 2a click on “Click here to view resources for Part 2a: Standing as an independent candidate” and the papers are there. You will also need to print out and return an Expenses Form (Part 3) and send it to the District Council by 30 May even if it is a nil entry.

For more information, assistance or to book a slot for submitting your nomination papers contact the District Council Electoral Services on 01263 516010 or email [email protected]

    Telephone:  01263 516010

Deadline for delivery of nomination papers to North Norfolk District Council, Holt Road, Cromer, is 4pm on Wednesday 3 April 2019.
